Nearly every day we meet somebody whose life was influenced by Alzheimer´s disease. There are not only people who became ill but often their relatives and close friends who are also strongly affected. Their stories are very similar – having  cared for a close person for a long time, they feel exhausted by the demanding care and feel that they need a rest.

Unfortunately, there are no simple solutions, mainly because:

• there is the lack of the quality professional care for people with Alzheimer´s disease
• there is not enough information available  for non-professional caretakers  – family members and close friends – and there are very few opportunities to share experience, sorrows and successes
• education and training of non-professional caretakers is often substituted by  unsuitable professional training
• the affected families cannot take care for all their members
• there is a deficiency in foreknowledge – especially awareness of the fact that the probability of Alzheimer's radically increases with age
• many people en up in a desperate situation - they do not seek counsel and care until they cannot manage on their own
• the current system of a social care financing does not offer sufficient funds for a complex solution of the situation

Our answer to these issues is the Alzheimer´s centre project. Services that we are today providing in our residential care and Day Centre or through personal assistance are good fundamentals for further development. Our objective in the establishing of Alzheimer’s centre is not only to provide a care but we want to increase the knowledge about that illness and to create the financing model for similar projects in another communities and regions. Join us and support us as patrons of the project!
