On the 22nd October 2009, six Sue Ryder organisations from Europe and Africa congregated together for the very first time to hold a collective charity event in Prague. The event, organised by Sue Ryder International CZ, brought together Sue Ryder organisations from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Poland, Malawi and the UK to gain knowledge and experience from each other regarding fundraising and charity events.
‘The fundraising fashion show experience in Prague was an enjoyable and interesting event. The items that were brought by various charities were amazing and the response by the invited audience was awesome. This has encouraged me to think about more fundraising activities for the future .’ Rodney Chalera, Malawi
The event began in the morning with a Charity Bazaar at Mama Coffee café at Vodičkova street, Prague 1. All Sue Ryder organisations brought unique and cultural goods from their countries to sell. The Bazaar was a big success and the café was bustling with joyful customers all day long.
In the evening the fashion show began; attended by more than 80 people. Each country had brought eight outfits from their own charity shops for eight different categories. These included Young, independent teenager, Ambitious woman, Househusband, Active senior, The Queen or King of the night, The most beautiful accessory, A typical citizen of my country and The most craziest model from my charity shop.
A winner was chosen for each category by a panel of judges and that outfit was auctioned to the invited guests. The winning country overall was Albania, who had the highest raise in bids for the most beautiful accessory.
The Charity Bazaar and the Fashion Show raised awareness of the individual Sue Ryder Charities around the world, not to mention €1862.66 for its charitable work.
Sue Ryder International would like to thank to all those who were involved and look forward to hosting similar events in future.
