Sue Ryder International
Sue Ryder International operates with a small staff team which takes responsibility for strengthening the work of Sue Ryder organisations nationally, and for stimulating the development of health and social care in developing countries. The team works in partnership with Sue Ryder organisations across Europe and southern Africa.
The needs of the wider Sue Ryder International community:
- Fundraising in support of community initiatives nationally and internationally;
- Facilitating the exchange of expertise in health and social care, fundraising and retail development;
- Promoting the reputation of our members in the eyes of national, European and international bodies.
It also works as a development agency, employing staff with appropriate expertise in international development. Working alongside our partners in our two priority regions of southern Africa and South-East Europe, the staff team supports the development of health and social care programmes for people in resource-poor countries.
Examples of Partnerships
- Fundraising and retail development - Sue Ryder International is partnering the Domov Sue Ryder, Prague, to assist in the development of its fundraising and retail activity.
-
Developing the quality of care - A partnership between the Dom Sue Ryder, Bydgoszcz, Poland and Sue Ryder Care – St John’s Hospice, Bedfordshire, UK has led to the exchange of expertise between these two Sue Ryder Hospices.
-
Developing New Services - Albania was an economic ruin when it emerged from decades of oppressive rule in 1992. In the early 1990s, a partnership was formed between two of Albania’s leading oncologists, Dr Agim Sellaku and Dr Fatmir Prifti, and Dr Giovanni Creton, Medical Director of Ryder Italia. This led to the establishment of Albania’s first palliative care services in 1994, with funding from Sue Ryder Care.
